Friday the 13th 2018 UP

Well, I had planned to get out early and do a half day and hopefully get some topwater fish.  I got two dinks on the whopper plopper and one other blow up.

Nothing else was biting in that area, so I decided to run upriver.  I started fishing in the shade by the MD shore, but nothing bit, so I ran up to try the middle bite that was lacking yesterday.  I felt a tick and swung on a fish that was almost at the boat.  Missed fish number one.  I could see a  set of rocks/ledges nearby and decided to try that.  Good move, as I got onto a small school of fish.  I caught about 4 and lost at least that many over the next hour and a half.  They hit keitechs on a SWM head, swim jig and underspin jig.

I tried a shoreline spot after that dried up and just got the tails bit off of 3 baits.  Then I decided to just drift the middle.  I would catch fish sporadically and every time I was ready to move or leave, I would catch or hook fish.  The average size was about 14 inches, but they fought hard.  My biggest was 16.5".  I caught a few on a Rebel humpback crank as well, including this dark one.

Then the wind picked up after lunch and that only helped the bite.  I could see the humps/ledges and would fan cast with the underspin.  I kept getting bit and lost almost as many as I caught.  It would stop and I would say, last cast or switch to the crank and get bit again.  I ended up staying until 3:30pm and caught 15 or 16 and lost a bunch.  The Summer flow and bite are here!

It was a beautiful day with a nice breeze and partly cloudy.

Well done...I think that yesterday must have been transition day.

That is exactly it.  Water clarity was better too.  That wind was upriver and the clouds made it nice.  Fish were stacked.  If I had spot lock like you, I would have caught more.  Fish were mean!
