Occoquan Reservoir 6/6/18

With the nice weather we are having I wanted to get out.  I was deciding between Burke Lake and Fountainhead and because I had watched a video of guys catching 27 pounds in the tournament on Sunday, I chose the rez.  I got there early and it was a beautiful cool morning.  I started trying to fish a Gambler loco lizard in the grass, but really did not have the right set-up.  The water was muddy.  I ran down river and found a creek arm that was a little less muddy.  I fished a chatterbait, spinnerbait and finally figured I had to finesse them and skip soft plastics.  I was alternating between a ned rigged TRD and a Yum dinger on a neko rig.  Both had chartreuse on them.  I caught my first 15.5" LM on the ned rig.

I caught one more dink in the ned rig and then switched back to the neko rig.  I caught a couple fish and missed a couple.  I was bummed that the fish were stealing my baits and it did not skip as well as I thought it would.  I think the hook slot was making it easy for the o ring to slide off, even though I put the hook through the plastic as well.

I finally decided to skip a tube and hopefully get a bigger fish.  That worked pretty well and I caught a few fish up to 14",

After the sun got high, I ran to find some clearer water, but did not find any.  I was happy to get out and not get skunked.  I caught 9 bass all and missed a couple.  I saw a deer swim across the water, an Osprey hunt and lots of birds, including a Pileated Woodpecker.  Great day to be out.  Hopefully, the river will be fishable by next week.

The first one had it's tail curled (moving).  I could not get it to straighten out.  I was not using your ned heads as I had a one with a weedguard rigged up from when I fished with Christian.  I will definitely get yours in use soon.
