Occoquan 5/4/2018

Hey Everyone!

It's been a while!

Life for me has a way of eating up all my precious free time, but thankfully it is all positive.

I just wanted to pop in and say hi and share my outing from last month before I took my hiatus to observe fasting.

I was out there for 3+ hours with just one bump until I finally nestled into a good spot and started fan casting a Texas rigged senko. On the third cast there was a blow-up that missed, so I casted again in the same area and this time something grabbed hold of the lure. I paused for a second and felt the line getting tight, I then started to retrieve and attempted to set the hook. The lure popped right out and I saw that the worm was pulled off, telling me that it was a short bite. I readjusted the lure and casted multiple times to the same area with no luck. Then I fanned to the right and to the left with no luck as well. I decided to switch to a top water frog and went over the same area, and still no luck. I decided to cast a little left, and sure enough the lure disappeared in a split second. I again paused, this time for two seconds, and saw my line moving. Feeling confident, I set the hook and felt a heavy weight that I had to drag through the grass.

At first I thought it was a LMB, but, to my surprise, when I was able to finally get a glimpse, I saw the distinct snake pattern. Interestingly, the snakehead wasn't fighting heavily and I thought I had it pretty easy.... until it touched my net, then all H@#& broke loose! It went nuts... long story short and some kayak acrobatics later. I killed the beast and took a sigh of relief. Here she is:

And of course nothing is complete without the Masgouf (this time on the grill)

Thank you for the kind words gentlemen!

Capt. Mike, my whole top water frog setup and how to go about casting it, all came from your lessons bro! Thank you again!

drxfish, actually my second... but this year I'm planning to target them more and hopefully multiply that number smile
