April 11, 12, 13, double secret shad report

For three days each year we do some shad fishing. I pick the days a year in advance and most often in the last four years I get it right. This year was spot on except the wind was relentless each day. But each day we landed and lost well over 50 shad each day. Some of my best clients also got a gourmet meal after the trip of cheese grits and shrimp gravy with a main coarse of seafood gumbo. A real cajun burn warm to you inside and out.
Mostly whites where caught on light to ultra light tackle.
So here is one pic from the two boats that fished.

I and Capt Dave love shad fishing.

Had a great time with my wife on the shad trip. She said she had fun....going to try and get her to commit to a SH trip this summer next!

So cool!

I used to think Shad fishing was silly......why fish for baitfish?

Then, I started targeting them with light and fly rods. Game changer.

I have a Light fiberglass rod that doubles over when a Shad is on. Total fun!!

Time to go fishin' again!

I must say that it was a blast to guide , fish and enjoy 50 plus fish each day. The biggest was a 4.5 lb white..no 8lbers put many over 3 lbs.
Only a few small ones. Went thru 20 darts as they snagged and lost them to fish. Several doubles that broke our 10 lb flouro.

What a blast.
