Well, even old veteran fishermen can be fooled. They called for cloudy with afternoon showers for the 4th. That's a falling barometer and less brutal heat; what more could you ask for in July? I prepared the night before with three dozen bull minnows in the aerated cooler and ice in the chest in great expectation. At 6:00 AM I left the ramp on a glass smooth lake and stopped at my favorite blowdown tree where I dunked minnows for thirty minutes with no action. Little did I realize that this was to be repeated several times. I did get a scant few bass and crappie but nothing worthy of the camera. At 11:00 the heat was getting prohibitive so I accepted defeat and left; final tally was 6 crappie and 3 bass.

I know the feeling but better a day on the water than a day at work! Oh...I forgot....you don't work! Except for maybe 3-4 hours a month!!
