Beech Lake Report - 7/2/08

Last year I fished Beech for the first time and caught some quality bass in the summertime. Because of the grass growth, there was better matting and the frog bite was great. That hasn't happened this year as of yet. Additionally, larger fish were cruising around the shorelines preying on the bluegills. I haven't seen a lot of that either. Regardless, I like the opportunity to fish different waters.

I went out yesterday to see how things are and ended up with 6 in about an hour. The bite seems to start slow but really pick up around 8pm. The bite was also quite subtle yesterday. I used a t-rig worm in a junebug color to see if that would provide a different reaction than the lighter colors I was using before. For the most part the action was the same and the fish remain small. The water is a coffee color with a about 12in of visibility. There is a lot of submerged grass that is dead as well that you often pull up. One thing I did notice was that it took a while for my lure to hit the bottom at the eastern most part of the lake down around the corner by the culvert. Does anybody know how deep it is there?

Looking forward to tomorrow!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
