Today, it was a field trip for the Hassan boys (they are home schooled).

We got on the water shortly after 7am....I got in a lesson in as well as it was my 1st self launch. All went well except I left my rope at the launch!

It was another beautiful day.

We all started by throwing top water: Sammies, Whopper Plopper, Megabass PopX. The PopX got a couple of short strikes but that was it......until the big hit on the white WP!

This is, by far, the fattest 18.5 incher I've ever seen!

But that was it in the 1st spot.

We made a run to the chute to try to get some BG's but they would just follow the 1/8 oz spinner baits and then go off to think about it some more. While there, we saw a massive school of carp. Of course, the kids wanted to catch them but you know the story there.

These guys (Zane and Amine) are good fishermen. They had to be a little more technical today and they did a great job despite of the lack of bite.

They say many eagles, blue herons, white egrets etc! And they got in some driving time as well!

We were only fishing until noon so we did a last drift. Water was fast and shallow.

I was throwing a big paddle tail swim bait and got hooked up to what appeared to be a bigger fish than the other one. What a battle! Mustafa had the net ready but.... the fish jumped right by the boat, gave me the evil eye and spit the hook. That was operator error for sure. I should have played him a bit more and held him in the water. I knew he was going to jump and I let him. BIG mistake.

So  after a bit, we called it a day and ran back

Oh...there were pastrami sammies with a secret sauce that were delicious!

Great day out and now Mustafa has a tired crew to tend to in their new home. Congrats for that!

Even better!  I changed the back hook to single, but put a better treble up front,

Sorry for the late response, just got my head above water with settling in.

As always the trip with Amoo (uncle) Ernie was memorable for all of us. Even though the boys got skunked, they really enjoyed the time on the water and I was proud at how they kept at it without complaining. The fish that Ernie landed was a beauty, but the one that got away... oh man that was a nice fish!!

Looking forward to many more years of these awesome memories, and I'm lucky that me and my boys get to share them with the a guy like Amoo Ernie! smile

p.s. Those sammies is how I am allowed on the boat! Otherwise, Amoo Ernie would leave me at the ramp and just take the boys fishing! big_smile
