7-28-17, UP

John and I figured we had a window of opportunity before the nor'easter came through, and we took it.

It was a delightful start of the day at 6:15a!

As we were motoring up river, John points to the shoreline and the stripers were blitzing!

OK...they weren't stripers but it sure looked like it. Turns out that it was a huge scholl of carp doing whatever they do in the shallow water. This continued when we came back as well. Never seen anything like it.

The skunk came off fairly quickly for both of us....

....game on!

This was the biggest to that point.

Then it began to rain but not hard so we kept fishing. We were listening for thunder as well as the marine radio.

John got ahead of me a little but I kept hanging close and by the end, I was tied with him, 11-11. I counted at least 10 fish that were hooked, started to fight and got off! Plus we had lots of other bites.

I caught fish on a crankbait, weightless swim bait. weighted swimbait, tube and ned rig. John can describe what he caught them on.

We were nearing the end of the drift and we both commenting on how lucky we were to have been able to get out before the heavy rain. Bonus!

But John would not stop fishing and got #s 12 & 13 quickly, with #12 being a fat and healthy 16 incher!

Around 11 (the time John thought we would be able to fish to) I turned up the marine radio and the weather robot said that strong storms were over eastern Montgomery County and were headed west. That's when we knew it was time to roll! We ended the day and headed over to Santini's for a nice sub as the heavier rains moved in!

We had a grand time indeed!

Time to go fishin' again!

Re: 7-28-17, UP

Thank you, Ernie, for another great day on the water!  We definitely got lucky with the rain.  Ernie was kicking my butt earlier, with probably 5 more fish than me.  I tried the Whopper Plopper with no takers early.  I switched around a bit and I think finally caught my first fish on a swimbait.  Caught fish on a Kinami craw, Keitech and BPS swimbaits, 3 on a Rebel humpy, then finally one on a Whopper Plopper.  The majority of my fish were on Fat Albert grubs.  White and melon pepper with the tail spiked (including the biggest one.

We did get rained on, but not soaked.  Even Ernie's camera was wet when he took that one picture.  We almost dried out by the time it was time to go.  We were the only ones around for most of the day.  Santini's to top it off.

Well done fellas! I was thinking to myself "I bet Ernie is going fishing today, trying to beat the rain" and I was right. John's first fish looks like it has a stogie lol
