My daughter went to a sleepover at her friend's house last night and my wife said she would go fishing with me. This is a big deal because we used to fish together a lot when we first got married, but now it's maybe once a year. We got out early and the water looked perfect. There were not many people out and the mist was cool in the morning. She wanted to use soft plastics, so I gave her a good rod with a green pumpkin fat albert grub that had the tail spiked chartreuse. 2nd cast, she caught a nice 15" smallie!
She continued catching maybe 10 fish, all over 12" before the sun came up. This included a 17",
and several 14-15" strong smallies.
I was trying topwater and finally started catching with grubs and swim baits. The catching slowed after the sun came up, but we got in to little pockets from time to time. We had a double when she caught her 17" and twice, she caught a fish with my rod when I handed it to her to fix or re-tie her lure. This included this nice 15"er.
Yes, I caught some fish, but she was on fire! I ended up catching up to her and we each had 12 fish landed.
We got to a deeper hole I said would hold a bigger fish and I caught the second largest fish at 16.5"
We were going though a clearer section and I lost 3 fish that bit the whopper plopper, including one that looked to be 18". I think short shank replacement hooks were partly to blame.
We ended up with 26 fish landed and she outfished me 14-12 as she usually does. It was a great day on the water!

And that's the way it should be ... kids should always outfish their parents
