Last November, at the PRSC Member Night, I won a float trip with John Lipetz to fish in his cataraft (pontoon boat). He is the owner of Fish and Explore and guides on the 'doah.
We picked a gorgeous day!
Because the shuttle service doesn't open until 9, we were not able to get on the water until 10am or so.
We were to float a 3.5 mile stretch that apparently is very fishy and has a lot of targets. Does it ever!
It didn't take too long to get the skunk off!
Or to get to 10 fish!
I even caught a few of these guys...
....rock bass (red eye bass), native to the river.
And the fish are hungry and aggressive. No clue to what this guy was thinking eating a 4" tube!
A very unique way to hold the boat on a ledge...
We had a decent morning but now it was lunch time...home made brisket sammies!
After lunch, it got hot...not the temps but the fishing!
Caught a few with a fly....
Then hooked into a pig but John had left the net at home so when he tried to lip it.....see ya! We estimated it at least 18 and perhaps close to 20. I will give it 18'75" of pure fight!
Then John caught my 19incher!
Lots of 14-15-16 inch fish that were all brutes!
Beautiful place, great fishing and a boat load of fun!

Sweet! I used to catch a lot of those "red eyes" when I fished for trout in the Watauga River of NC.......many moons ago.
