Ha! That's not saying much, very little Cuban food in DC anymore...
But if that is the one at International Square, they do a good job.

Dc does not have many authentic Cuban food places. However if you ever spend some time in Richmond VA I suggest this place for breakfast.

Ate there many times...

Two in MD that are good:
Sabor de Cuba in Frederick
Cuba de Ayer in Burtonsville
All of this talk reminds me that I need to make some Ropa Vieja soon....with Frijoles Negros and Platanos Maduro.

Also called Shredded Seef.
In order as above:
2 lbs flank or brisket
1/3 c EVO
1 onion
2 cloves garlic (I like 1-2 more)
1 green pepper
1 sm can tomato sauce
1 tsp salt (I don't use salt)
1-2 laurel (bay) leaves
1/2 c dry sherry or white wine
1 sm can pimentos
Cut meat into 1" wide strips and brown in a little EVO. Add water and cook for an hour so that you can easily separate (shred) meat after it cools. It' like pulled pork.
Cut onion into rounds, dice green pepper and saute in EVO. Add garlic after a few minutes.
Throw everything else into the pot (covered and cook for 30 minutes, stirring once in a while.
When done, put the pimiento (red peepr) strips on top to make it look nice.
I like to put in fridge and eat it the next day after warming it back up.
Serve w/ rice and platanos if desired. Can also be used as sub meat (hot) with Lettuce and tomato.
You really can't screw this up. The name "Ropa Vieja" means "old clothes". They used to take all of the left over week's meat (Cubans like meat) and throw it into a pot to cook it down.

Thanks for the recipe!

By the way, I do like to add a little of the "juice" that the meat was cooked in. Just cook the concoction another 20 minutes or so.

Yo that is a legit recipe!
There's a place in Sterling in the new shopping center, Colada Shop. They have cubanos, epanadas, Cuban coffee drinks, island cocktails and a few other small bites. Happy hour is $1.50 empanadas. Not a full blown restaurant but I'll take what I can get this far west of the city!

I'll be enjoying some ropa on the beach in Miami later this week

Enriquetta's in North Miami is a neat place but so are all of the other ones. There are a few Cubans down there to keep them in check!
Go catch a peacock or 10!

My wife reminded me how easy this is to make....
Man, it was good and plenty for the rest of the week!!
I suggest cooking the meat for 90 minutes. Add a few small chunks of green pepper and a couple of bay leaves. And use at least a 1/4 cup of remaining broth along with the sherry and tomato sauce.
