When I looked at the river on Wednesday, it was up but still had some green in it. And the gauges looked decent. But, we saw a spike last night. It seems that the 'doah got a bit more rain than they predicted (most of that heavy rain stayed south of us) and when we got to the ramp, the river had a latte stain and had some git go.
Still, we went up river (dodging lots of debris) looking for some calm pockets.
There were none.
After fishing the VA shoreline for a bit, we went in to the Goose and it looked good but there was no current at the mouth or even several hundred yards in. It was like a lake. The dam was the 'mac's current.
We pounded the shore line with spinner baits, swimbaits and jerk baits. Curly even threw his famed P&G for a bit.
We got one hit and I was able to land this FAT 16 incher!
This one was caught on a George build rod using a swim bait on a George built belly weighted hook.
We are definitely in the pre spawn phase....
After doing this for a bit, we decided to run all the way to the rapids where there would be some Oxygen and current.
That was a good move as we started catching a few!
A small FAT smallie...
Channel cat that hit a jerk bait!
Curly then caught a smallie that was so fat and wide that it looked like a big blue gill. Only skinny fish we caught was an 8" LMB that ate a 4" swim bait.
I then spotted a rock and threw my spinner bait (old style Bumble Bee) and nailed another fattie!
Shortly thereafter, just before picking up and leaving, Curly nailed another fattie.
I missed a few fish but not many. We wondered how many fish saw our lures today since we were certain that there were many more there than what we caught.
Good day out there despite being held to just fishing the creek.

We both noted that they seemed "bigger" because they were so fat.....it was very cool.

The new boat break-in is going well, two more species to check off. Glad you found some. The O was beautiful today, and very productive.
