4-21-17, Fletcher's

WARNING!

This post is going to be picture heavy....having JC on board with his camera is huge!!

We were on the water shortly after the sun rose....

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/2017%20Fishing/IMG_20170421_071504_zpskfgss7b7.jpg

....and the new sled was on the DC Potomac for the 1st time.

We made the run upriver and we ran into a leaf minefield!

Normally, not big deal but in  a jet....not good. We clogged up 2-3 times before we could find some clean water. Disadvantage - jet.

On up river we went as JC snapped some nice shots!

We went to my favorite rock and it did not disappoint.

At 1st, I was out fishing JC. But we figured out what it was, they wanted Mylar! Just like Bob discovered at the Occoquan. Color did not mater, sparkly did! And JC quickly stared wailing away at them..

We fished for about 2 hours and caught a boat load of shad.

We also jigged for stripers but all told, we maybe made 20 cats between us. The shad were too much fun.

Now on to Part II of our journey. Today was the Wounded Heroes Shad Gala at Fletcher's, so back downriver we went....

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/2017%20Fishing/_DSC6007_zpsyxz1gziy.jpg

....and many were already at it!

So we went up to get a couple of participants, we were at low tide as we moved into the cove, no problem. Advantage- jet.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/2017%20Fishing/_DSC6003_zpsljzouv1z.jpg

Once we had our crew back to my favorite spot....JC snapped away....

....and Millie (Army Vet) began to hammer them!

....and put on a smack-down to her brother!

Her brother, Shorty (he's younger and 6'2") had never fished before. I gave him a closed faced spinner but it did not cast well so we had some on board instruction going on while he learned to cast and retrieve properly. But he struggled at 1st. So I made a cast, hooked up and gave it to him so he could get a feel for it.

We shared our spot with Capts. Dennis and Dale.

Big sis' continued to hammer them, catching hickories, herring and a striper but she was proud of her baby brother....

We went in (to the Gala party) at 1 and had great lunch and community with lots of volunteers, veterans and their families. What  great time!

JC and I decided to leave a little early as there were some reports of T-Boomers moving in. We made our long slow trek back and wre on the road by 3:30p. Just in time to dodge some serious storms just north of us.

Great day out on the water.....beautiful weather and helping out wit a great cause. As we said on the way home, "does not get much better than this"!

Great job. Looks like good numbers of fish, but I think you're right about the Occoquan having larger hickories.  Go mylar.

It was steady fast....a few were fat. The one on the deck was big....as were a few others. We only fished in one spot. The guys fishing directly out of Fletcher's got a few American's a s well.

And....I forgot that we saw this familiar guy on the way back to the Wounded Heroes lunch.

Quite a thrill as we saw the whole battle with the @35" striper!

Re: 4-21-17, Fletcher's

It was quite a trip! Glad I was finally able to go fishing, and shad fishing at that! A lot of Ernie's shad were fat. I didn't take too many pictures of our fish because the fishing was hot! Shorty also caught not just 1 double but 2 doubles, and they were back to back! Leaving Fletchers the scenery was really nice as the sun came out and the skies were blue. I should have taken photos then but I was just sitting back relaxing and taking in everything before me and everything that came to pass that day.

You also can't tell in the picture but that striper was faaaaat. He's holding in the belly in the photo but when he let go you can see that thing just bulging out. It was really cool that we happened to be passing by as battle was commencing.

That must have been one heck of a fight on that tackle! Love it.

No problem. Let's do it again some time! I can be your personal photographer lol In the heat of the moment I wasn't thinking and didn't put on the telephoto lens. I also should have adjusted the aperture. Pictures would have came out a lot clearer. Still, glad we were there at the right time and they came out.
