UP on 6-24

I got an unexpected afternoon noon off. So I went fishing. The water has cleared up and dropped since last weekend and there was a bit wind blowing down the river.

I floated both shores and the middle of the river, I also worked the islands, casting grubs and Tubes. I found the middle to be best with the falling water.

The fishing was steady, I probably got 30 fish in four hours 2-6pm. Here is one of the bigger ones. and a self portrait.

The fishing has been getting better over the last few years. The class of fish is still small, but if we are lucky that should improve. River conditions play a big part in your success rate. Fish will move depending on water temp, gage height, flow rate as well as water clarity and in another couple of weeks the weeds will emerge above the water making fishing with the jet boat difficult but creating nice habitat for the young of the year.

I forgot to tell myself to smile. Which reminds me blueberries are supposed to be good for memory; I keep forgetting to eat them.

Re: UP on 6-24

I read something that said a 3-4lb smallmouth is usually around 12 years old. Considering that growth rate, you all may be catching some 5-6 year old fish in the 1.5 - 2lb range. You gotta be good to do that!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

Somehow that statement cries out for a comment, but I'm not saying a word.  (and that's so unlike me)
