Any Shad Yet?

Some nice weather days forecast for this week. Does anyone have any update on the shad run for this year...either near Fletchers or in the Occoquan?
Thanks,
Bruce

They are sneaking in some and have been for over a week but not in great numbers. Of course, you won't know if you don't go.

My shad bush (serviceberry) looks like it will be in bloom in the next week or so unless we drop back in the 20's for an extended period of time. It is usually within a week or so of when they start to show up in numbers.

Re: Any Shad Yet?

Speaking of blooms, the red boat bloom is just about out. Fletcher's just started putting their boats out. They do that when the shad start running. Not just coincidence.

They're at Fletcher's now.  Both Americans and Hickories if my shad ID skills are accurate.  I was out today and will have a post and pictures shortly.

Was thinking about going out tomorrow morning but looks like not with all the rain we're getting today.

Check the gauge....sometimes there is a delay. But we did have rain earlier in the week which may have pushed the water up.

Won't be long before it's at 5ft at Little Falls.  Sugarland Run, Broad Run and the Goose are really flowing right now.

It's supposed to get over 6'!

I've gone when the river is rising at 4.5' + and it's not worth the effort. However, 4.5' and falling is very doable.
