Father's Day on Cedar, 6-15-08

David Policansky and I fished Cedar this afternoon for a few hours and wailed on the blue gill with some 1 pound bass mixed in (and some smaller ones too). It was constant action. I took a few nice pictures of our catch but somehow, I lost them in the transmission.

After dinner, I saw Khahn out there rigged up to catch carp. He did not have any luck but he is honing his skills and I am sure he will nail one before too long!

I used the 4 wt out tonight and the blue gill action was again red hot! Lots of big blue gill on the fly (spider).

I also managed a few on top but that was slow going. I even had a nice bass hit the spider.....

Kahn was my witness and was also the photograpeher. I lost track of how many blue gills were caught today but it was the most ever in one day....and BIG too!!

Saw lots of other folks out there and some were catching bass. Good seeing everyone out there! What a great day!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads!

Re: Father's Day on Cedar, 6-15-08

Ernie was tearin' it up out there this evening. He must have caught over 30 hand sized bluegills. I saw some huge swells where big fish were missing his fly - my thought is that they were bass.

Even though I did not not catch any carp, I know where they are hanging out now. They are swimming along the mulberry/blackberry trees that overhang along the banks towards the back of the cove. They didn't care for corn today. I will figure them out. I'm hoping to post the first carp photo out of Cedar soon.

Ernie's neighbor, a guy named Bruce, has made a challenge that he will be the first to bag a Cedar carp. Now i'm really motivated...

Ernie,

I think you gave me some valuable advice about those mulberries....

I agree. But if I can manage to hook unto one with my ultralite, I think it will be well worth the effort. I saw you catch those bass - it was a nice relaxing day yesterday.

I can't wait to see Khahn get dragged in the water when he catches a carp on the ultralite rigs he is using!!
