7-30-16, Severn River

The Engle boys joined me today to try to catch some dinner.

Tyler has been asking to go fishing for a couple of years....

....and today was the day!

It was not but 2 minutes our from the ramp that we saw some braking fish and Jake nailed a striper!

But we didn't want to waste any time on them so we headed over to the towers where we all caught some nice keepers!

Tyler had never used a spinning rod before. It was always a close faced spinner. I gave him a few pointers and after a bit, he was throwng sidearm and making some great backhand cats as well. He picked it up quickly!

After putting a few in the cooler, we made a run. Waves and wind helped that decision....

This was now our 3rd spot and every time we started fishing, Jake would catch the 1st fish! He was definitely top man today.....

We did well in Martin's Pond. We caught some keepers and Tyler hooked a pickle but lost it before he could get it in the boat. He was now intrigued especially after I caught one!

We then went in to Brewer's Pond to finish out the day but it was really slow in there. High noon and a slack tide were the culprits....so I think.

But then I hear 2 screaming reels and both Tyler and Jake were hooked up....

....with some nice pickerel!

Nah....I don't think they were happy.

We fished for a little bit longer and the wind started to crank. Just like it does before a storm so we headed back quickly (and bumpy) and got to the ramp just as it started to sprinkle. Good teamwork made putting everything away and getting the boat right and we were on our way before the storms hit.

This was a special day for sure. I've been Tyler's buddy (from church) for a while and this was his 1st boat fishing adventure. Joe and Jake had been out with me before.

We were worn out from all the casting and catching close to 100 fish (a couple of 1 inchers)!

Great day indeed!
