Ernie was gracious enough to host Andrew and I for a half day jaunt to a Occoquan River tributary. The morning was beautiful and we set out for LM and Snakehead in the grass and pads. We started out at the mouth throwing chatterbaits and topwater lures to no avail. We saw some movement in the grass, but got no takers. We waited to two other boats to clear out and we made our move further in. At first we were throwing frog type lures to the pockets and edges. After no takers, Ernie switched to a weightless senko and threw deep into a pocket Andrew and I had both fished with frogs. Fish on! It was maybe a foot of water back there, but Ernie got the skunk out with a nice 18" 3 pounder with a large head.
A little while later, Andrew coaxed a similar sized LM from the creek channel with a scrounger jig.
We worked out way out of the creek with the tide and I finally caught a smaller LM on a chatterbait at the transition between channel (mud stained) and grass line (clear). We saw lots of wildlife and watched a vulture, eagle and osprey locate a deer carcass at the water's edge. The osprey swooped at the eagle and they continued battling as the buzzards finally found their way to the carcass. Pretty cool scenery.
The winds that were supposed to get up to 9 mph started gusting to 99 (ok, maybe 20mph). We saw some snakehead swirls and Andrew and Ernie got close to follows, but it was not to be. We were out pretty much when the tide chaged and bouced our way past the exiting floatilla of Independence Weekend boaters back to the ramp.
Nice weather, great scenery and good company. Thanks guys!

It was a great day indeed....thanks for posting the report. I'll add a few pics in a bit.
We all agreed that it was a great way to get the weekend started.
Seeing 5-6-7 eagles made it extra patriotic!
