John and I met Capt. Craig Korzinski to fly fish some late afternoon freshwater in his 25' Ghanoe. I love these boats. Talk about fast, shallow and stable!
It did not take John long to hook in to a nice peacock bass. Skunk is off and we are ready for battle.
Just a few minutes later he got a nice Mayan Cichlids. Beautiful fish.
I then saw some movement by a sea wall, made a nice cast and had a submarine follow my gurgler. He took it and the fight was on. He made one roll and we all gasped at the size and color. And then.....pffft! Gone. Why, because I had on a 10-12 lb leader instead of the customary 20. I had been too lazy to change it before we got started. BIG mistake!!
While I lamented, John went on to catch an even better Mayan and a nice LMB.
Then.....the rains came so we hid under a bridge.....for 2.5 hours. It was pounding rain with lots of close by lighting.
When we had a slight break, we hauled butt back and got in our warm cars. We were very wet and started to get cold.
We fished for maybe an hour but that is how it goes.
Day 2 tomorrow and a bonus. Thai will be joining us.
