May 8 & 9, 2016 Chassahowitzka & Homosassa Rivers Fl

Having a business meeting in Tampa on Tuesday, I flew in early so I can fish these rivers with Mark Myers (on his tunnel hull G3, more on this later) and Bill Skiver. The last 2 years I fished with Bill but Mark just moved down here recently (from Reston) so we went with him.

Mark's boat is a sweet 18 footer (G3 w/ 70hp) and I believe it's a boat that I can use in the upper Potomac even though it is a prop motor.

The thing runs in no water when you jack plate the engine up. It's a smooth boat and 3 can fish on it very comfortably.

We didn't have much time on Sunday due to the No Wake regulations on the Chass River.

But we finally got to the fishing grounds and we were in an extremely high tide which made finding fish difficult.

Bill ran the trolling motor and took us to fishey place after fishy place but they were not biting.

We were almost out of time when I felt some slack in my line and decide to pull it tight and was rewarded with a beautiful copper toned 23 incher!

He would be our dinner....and Mark outdid himself!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/New%20Kiko001/IMG_0339_zpsdrkrqqnt.jpg

On Monday, we waited for the low tide to end so we had time for a home cooked breakfast....

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/New%20Kiko001/IMG_0340_zpst9exxom1.jpg

....and home prepared subs! What a bonus!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/New%20Kiko001/IMG_0341_zpssd0awgdg.jpg

We put in at the Homosassa at 10:30a or so.....chatted with some friends!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/New%20Kiko001/IMG_0343_zpseieuskxw.jpg

....and went on up the river.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/New%20Kiko001/IMGP2395_zpszhdidfna.jpg

Mark scored 1st with a trout...

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/New%20Kiko001/IMGP2397_zpsmwejujjm.jpg

...and I followed with another one shortly thereafter. I was using my travel casting rod and a slash bait, which I stayed with for 90% of the time, surprisingly.

After that, we went through a dry spell but the company and weather were great so it took the sting off.

We then went to the place that saved our last trip and sure enough, I got hit with a keeper (and tasty) mangrove snapper. Now the adrenaline is up.

Mark then scored a snook......

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/New%20Kiko001/IMGP2403_zpsrzu0qdon.jpg

Then on the next pass...a nice 21 inch red!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/New%20Kiko001/IMGP2404_zpsxdjnefpn.jpg

Time was running out on us and we decided to make one or two more drifts and I was rewarded with a jack who simply slammed my lure!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/New%20Kiko001/IMGP2409_zpsorpx7jcq.jpg

All my fish were caught on the slash bait.....which single hooks. Thanks to Bob (Osprey) for getting me on this lure (for pickerel).

As I said before....great time fishing with these guys. I am glad that I know them!

I will post more pics after Mark sends them to me.....

Sounds like a blast! You mean a Rapala X-Rap Slashbait, correct? Single hooks? So just one treble or you replaced the trebles with other hooks?

Yes, that bait. I replace both hooks with a single VMC hook. Just have to make sure action stays the same by adding a bigger hook.

I hate trebles and have for years. At one point, I sold almost everyone I owned. Big mistake because I've had to rebuy many of them. All of my hard baits now have single hooks.

There is a thread that I did that had pictures.

It was sooooo nice!

Evenings were 60ish....days 85 with a slight gulf breeze. I actually laid down on the back of the boat as we were no waking it and almost fell asleep!
