We had planned to fish and the weather decided to mess that up (rain, then 15 mph winds), so I had him help me put new tires on my trailer. By the time we finished that, the wind did not seem too bad, so we decided to give it a try. We ran upriver a bit on the protected side of an island. Good thing we did. I caught the first fish on a buzzbait and he had a green 3" senko. After he got no bites, I tied on a 4" watermelon Powerbait lizard. Not long after that I heard drag pulling and I thought he was snagged. I asked him to give me the rod and I then realized it was a fish. I handed him back the rod and the fight was on! I thought it was a big cat, because it stayed down, but then I saw it was a large Smallie! After a few more short runs, I was able to net the beautiful 18" chunk.
We were stoked! He caught no more on that, so I rigged up a Z man Crusteaz and first cast had a feisty Smallie.
We kept that on and he caught one more Smallie and a good sized sunfish.
I ended up with 4 Smallies and a catfish that slammed a rebel craw. Great afternoon and so glad we went.
