3/25 Chain Bridge shore fishing

I went on the hunt for Shad early Friday morning. I had a line in by 7:30. I fished for 3.5 hours and caught zero shad, and only caught this guy. My first one! Totally worth the trek.

I didn't have my measuring tape with me, but based on my hand breadth, and comparing it to my rod, it was right around 25".  It was such an amazing fight on 6lb line! I peeled line for the first 30 seconds or so. By the time I got it close enough to see what it was my heart started thumping in my chest.

I did see a few fish jump throughout the morning but I don't know what they were. Some were big splashes some weren't. I also saw either a bowfin or snakehead in the water. It was about 10 yards out and was torpedo shaped. Super cool. Towards the end of my trip I almost caught another around this size. I was just mindlessly reeling in fast and just as I was about to pull my lure out of the water I see it going toward my lure then turning away. Great way to spend Friday morning smile

Together we'll fight the long defeat.

That is a great surprise when you're expecting to catch shad. WTG!
