5-30-2008 - Ashburn Lake report

Fished Ashburn Lake for two hours today and saw alot of 2-3 pound bass on the beds along the rocks adjacent to the dam. They would not sniff anything I threw at them - tried the senko, culprit worm, and even some wet flies and still no interest.

The weeds were terrible and had to remove clumps of the stuff almost after each cast. Saw alot of dead crappie and bluegill on the shores. I don't understand why people would just leave fish for dead on the banks. They should be thrown back for the next person to enjoy. It irks me to see this happen...

Some of those dead BG and crappie are of natural causes. Once in a while, BG get gut hooked and they craok after a bit....that happened to the little kids I was helping on Monday....and then the big bass ate it!

I caught a few 1 pounders today on Cedar...they were fat. I think they are gorging themselves on BGs!!
