Delaware 7/24-7/26

Got to Cape Henlopen around 6:30 Friday morning and launched my kayak by the pier shortly after. I caught a keeper flounder on a bass assassin right away, but action tapered off after that. I fished the CH pier, Cape Shores pier, and the ferry wall. By late morning the wind had picked up considerably and fishing was difficult, I pulled out around noon I think. Final tally was several flounder with the one keeper, some croaker, and an oyster cracker.

Later in the day I fished the North side of IRI. Jigged for a few hours and caught nothing.

Set up camp and got some sleep after that, then woke up around 11pm to fish. I played with schoolie stripers in the canal using plastics and topwaters. Fun but nothing real big.

Saturday morning I launched at the pier again. Crowds and horrible fishing were the story. Mostly drifted around the pilings and also went out to the inner wall only to find it covered up with boats and kayaks. I pulled out after a few hours and 1 small flounder was the only catch. Seems like the crowds get worse every year :-/

I planned on fishing IRI again, but when I got on Rt.1 the traffic was so bad I just turned around and went to Roosevelt inlet instead. I fished for 3 hours or so, caught nothing and saw nothing caught. After leaving RI I stopped at the canal for an hour with the same results.

Saturday night I went back to the canal for schoolie stripers again. Same thing as Friday night, caught a bunch on plastics and topwaters.

Sunday morning I went to IRI and jigged the South side from 9am-1pm. I caught nothing but I did see a few small croakers caught by bait fishermen.

One last stop at Roosevelt Inlet for about an hour. Caught nothing and saw nothing. Left for home from there.

Pretty lousy weekend for fishing but I enjoyed myself anyway

Thanks for the report! Better than being at work on a Friday. Is that first picture a croaker? Looks like a decent size.

Together we'll fight the long defeat.
