6-20-15, out of Deale

George Thurston and I were on the water shortly after 0630 for a day of white perch fishing and maybe some striper action!

George was ready!

Two years ago today, Jeff, Curly and I had one of the best days ever on the bay catching stripers and perch!

But....not today.

We started at the duck blind. Nada. Then the rock jetty. Nada. Then the Spanish house. Nada.

Finally, we got 3 nice ones (9.5, 10 and 11) at the solar house.

We then hit the Chesapeake jetty where we plucked out a couple....

....including this 12.5 incher!

We then fished the flat and caught a few more.

The bay was flat calm and several times I kept wondering if we should hit the other side but I resisted. Hmmmm....mistake?

We found many sizable bait pods in deeper water and we jigged until the cows (rays ) came home but no strikes.

We didn't even get a bite at the low bridge with the current flowing out of the creek.

Speaking of current....other than at the bridge, we never did see any as the tide went out. It was weird.

We finished out at the Deale jetty and we caught a couple of more, one nice silver one being close to 11". So we called it a day

We worked very hard to catch maybe 15 fish.....all quality eaters, several 10+"!

We were hungry and were going to make a take out pass at the Wagon Wheel BBQ (used to be Big Dave's). I was going to drop George off to get the food but he challenged me to try to turn the boat in the small parking lot. With his tarmac skills, we managed to turn the boat around and park.

We got to sit and relax.....George had the beef brisket BBQ (I took a pound home for dinner) and I had the chili with sweet potato fries. Thanks for buying George!

Funny how we forgot about the slow fishing....great time today!

Slow? Looked like a good day to me. Hope you put that 12.5 back, I'll see her in August when she's 12.75

Bob- the fish are lethargic and not at their usual haunts (in numbers). It was painfully slow. We fished from 7 am until past 1pm. We talked to a couple of other perchers and they had a slow day too but had a 12" in the coolers.

All of ours went back.

Nice WP day.  You are collecting the big ones SLOWLY but surely!

Speaking of BBQ.  There is a new joint that opened by Cobb 12 Theatre between Ashburn and Leesburg on Rt 7.  It is called Smokehouse Live.  Discovered it by chance last night.  Some of the best BBQ I have had in a very long time.  Had the Brisket and the Pulled Pork.  Sooooo tender and tasty.  The closest thing to a BBQ joint you will find in this area and it was excellent.

I am aware of Smokehouse (middle son has been there a couple of times) and am looking forward to going. Just say the word.....
