Today my daughter Kara and I took the inaugural fishing float on the Shenandoah River (Front Royal Canoe Co - State Park to Karo run). The day was beautiful - bright sun around 84 degrees. Due to some recent rains, the water level was up - - the current was faster than normal, and the clarity wasn't good. We only boated eight bass between the two of us for the 5 mile trip . . . but that didn't really bother us. We enjoyed the day, had the river pretty much to ourselves, and saw lots of wildlife - including a clutch of cranes that were all nesting in the same tree.
And once again, Kara caught the big fish. Her 17" bass was caught on her third cast, and she managed to muscle it to shore with her pink fishing rod! I found a 14" behind some riffles that put up a fight that made the whole trip worthwhile.
We're looking forward to getting back on the river once the water level drops to normal.
