Jeff and I met up early for a day of fly fishing only at Fletchers.
This is how it started!
And it just got better from there....
....Jeff was bowed up with a nice almost 17" hickory!
It was tough going at 1st as we tried to figure out the right combo which included fly placement, sinking leader or not, moving it slow or fast, making sure the line swings tight before retrieve, making sure of not being too deep and losing your fly and then hooking up to the bottom....that moved!
Jeff's rod got a serious bend on it and a fight ensued. He was using a 6wt against a blue kitty brute!
No lie...on a shad fly!
My unofficial boga said 12 pounds! On a shad fly??
Man what a blast it was to see that battle. Jeff handled it like a pro!
I did catch a few hicks....
....this one was a solid 17". Great fights on the 6 weights!
Outstanding weather....just missed Andrew as we motored up river.....great day!

What was that Kittie doing wasting his time with a little shad fly? That must have been an amazing fight on a fly. Nice job. It was a beautiful day. I love Ernie's first pic. His signature to always start with a sunrise pic.

It was a beautiful day in a beautiful spot.
Ernie took us up to a nice quiet cove. No other boats.
Ernie was able to figure out what they wanted a started slaying them. He had one stretch when he was catching on every cast.
Here is a few pics I took
Thanks for a great day

I wish we could have heard you Andrew......definitely remember that boat out on the current because Jeff and I commented about it.
You guys did well with some Americans....they were not up at the quiet spot.
Here was our only arsenal....

lol. I let my buddy take the lead as to where to fish. he wanted to try something different and i was hoping to pick up something different than shad in the current but it proved to be tough out there. the current was deceptively swift.
I threw some top water plugs hoping to coax a striper but didn't work out. I'm still a rookie when it comes to striper fishing.
We rowed into the calm water after we struggled for a bit and thats where we started to slam the shad.
We did very well. caught a large number of hickories and had those two americans. What we noticed was, at high tide and in the AM, the shad were close to shore. all our bites were within 10-15ft from the shore line. as the tide receded, the fish were further from shore and actually getting larger!
success came off of white/red darts and pink/black darts.
the great thing about those huge americans, each one came with a hickory too! a great double catch.
