John and I wee supposed to hit Flecther's today but it was running 7.3' which is NO good. We decided we both needed to fish so down river we went.
The motor started right up (had not even seen my boat since January) and off we went. But when I tried to go on plane.....slip time. Spun hub. Back to the ramp and in less than 15 minutes, we were back fishing as I always have a spare prop.
We only had a short window as the winds were to pickup to Gale Force by 11...NOT! They were that way shortly after we started fishing. Whitecaps and 2 foot rollers on the Potomac!
So we hit a bunch of spots and got nothing to show for it. Then, we decided to do a final drift as the wind was really getting out of hand.
All of the sudden, in 20' of water, I get hit and start losing line....quickly. Rats, I have the bottom. But John was there with the net and my line started screaming the other way. HUGE head shakes. I did something that I know I should not have done and that is to try to horse the fish in. No,no! I could hear Capt. Dennis screaming in my ear (he was not there), "don't force it". And then...pop. The line broke. What a disappointment.
I had all day to get this fish in but my haste made it a waste.
We got off the water and good thing we did because on the way home, the sky darkened, the winds picked up even more and the rains came.
