3-18 Cedar Crappie

Tried the A and B lakes after work and NADA.  Went up to Cedar and finally found a few........out very far in the middle of the lake and deep.  Had to cast at least 40 yards to get to them.  Caught 6 in 1.5 hrs.  Here is the best 5 totaling 52".

Nice stringer of crappies. But what I'm wondering is how these guys figured out how to get that big jig in their mouths? Or perhaps Curly actually owns some other lures...what do you think????

Re: 3-18 Cedar Crappie

I knew you'd find them sooner or later! I've only ever caught crappie as a bycatch, never when I target them. How do you work the jig under the float?

Re: 3-18 Cedar Crappie

Get a weighted bobber

Evwry day varies

Some days twitch it, some days almost swim it, some days dead stick it.

Depth can vary

My rule of thumb is the more wing their is, the cliser to the suface I hang the jig

Some days, no bobber-just cast. Again, figure out what works. Dead stick on bottom, drag, yo yo,, swim or rip.

I like 4#mono

Re: 3-18 Cedar Crappie

Anyone get any water temps while they were out there? When does the spawn typically get going? How is the pre-spawn fishing usually?
