Reel Discounts this Spring

Im looking to buy a new shimano baitcaster this year but I was wondering if they ever went on sale (dicks sporting good, academy, etc).  Where is the best place to buy the reel.  Thank you for your help.

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

BassPro is having their spring sale right now. They have a reel trade in program that might help, especially if the reel you're interested in is already on sale.

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

The spring sale is in-store only. You should be able to check out the flyer online though to see if it is discounted. Maybe you can also check out discount fishing websites, there seems to be plenty of those. Or maybe it is on Sierra Trading Post, they always have coupons.

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

If you do the reel trade-in make sure shimano is included in the deal. Sometimes they aren't. Found that out at the check out counter a few years ago after handing over 2 nice reels to get to high end shimano reels loaded with line. Didn't get the $50 off on each, and never went back to use the coupons. Now I ASK first.
This year you can trade in rods as well.

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

Shimano is NEVER included in the Bass Pro Spring Classic reel trade in.

I still own one Shimano baitcaster that I will never part with unless offered an obscene amount of money,  it is a Curado 100D.  Not made any longer.  My advice,  get a Bass Pro Shop Pro Qualifier.  With a trade in,  $65.  I thought I saw they would be $50.  I own five.  Many have tried and learned the value of this reel.  I'd buy another this week but,  I'd have to buy another rod to go with it. (that and the reincarnation of a certain boat leaves me broke)

Get the 7:1 gear ratio.

For the price of a Curado,  get a rod to go with it...

After years of handling them in the store,  this is what prompted me to take the leap into Pro Qualifiers.

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

Tacklewarehouse did a shimano discount during the Bassmaster classic last year so they may do it again this year.

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

Sales on new Shimano baitcasters are hard to come by. TW and BPS often exclude that brand from their promotions. Sometimes you can get around it a bit when the gift cards go on sale, but even then it only 10% at best. Like Capt Mike said, your best bet for a bargain is to look at slightly used models at the flea markets or on eBay.

I like the Curados myself, especially the old new 200 E7's. Never owned a Chronarch myself, but I hear they are quite similar. Looks like Cabela's is running a pretty good deal on them. Let us know how you like it if you end up getting it.

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

So the PSG flea market is this weekend. It is mostly salt stuff but with 100 vendors many sneak in some used shimi baitcasters. I find that the deals in this setup are fantastic. But you will need to fight the huge crowds and get there at opening time.

Good luck on your search..

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

I agree with Mike....all of these shows have hidden deals but you have to seek and find.

My problem is that I find but don't need but get anyway......

I am going to the Rapidan fly show on Saturday, just to get a change of pace. There will be many deals on bamboo fly rods. I don't need or want another one. Will I resist the force?

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

I took my girlfriend to the Medieval Times.  Just so happens the BPS is there too, how convenient.  Finally got around to using a gift card.  Got a PQ reel, some swimbaits with spinners, and M16 and M4 grill lighters.

Traffic sucked leaving last night.  Way more snow up there than anywhere else around.  Took about half an hour to get back to I70.  Had to make my own lane at times because so many think doing 10mph in the left lane with flashers on is the way to do things.

Re: Reel Discounts this Spring

You just have to call TW and ask for the discount.  They just can't advertise it.  I have always gotten a discount on all my shimano there.  They will also match Bass Tackle Depot's discounts.
