2-8 Occoquan Recon

Ernie and I decided to hit the Big-O after church since they were calling for 60 degrees there today.  Got to the ramp a little after noon to be greeted by ice at the ramp.  Our goal was yellow perch.

Probably a dozen trailers in the lot.
We started the first hour for yellow perch.....the only "bite" was this shad that Ernie snagged.

Only saw 2 perch caught all day...........water was quit muddy.
Saw a bald eagle and later this heron in a nearby tree.

Went to our crappie honey-hole and marked fish on the FF.  Stopped the boat and dropped a silver buddie on top of their heads........school of stupid shad.

got off the water around 3 pm and the temperature was 66 degrees! 52 degrees at the house 40 minutes later sad

Definitely too early for the YP........maybe in 3 more weeks?

Re: 2-8 Occoquan Recon

It was just nice to get out and be outside!   cool

And we both snagged stinky fish to boot!! Like Curly mentioned, we didn't see much catching out there even though there were lots of boats and yaks.

We were planning to try it on Feb. 16....check that forecast! mad

Glad you took advantage of the weather. At least you pulled something out of the water!

Nice new picture Ernie. Did you take that or is it from JetSkiBrian?

Re: 2-8 Occoquan Recon

The question is "will this be the year the yellow perch comeback" It seems to me the last several years they didn't show in any numbers.

Glad you guys got out,

Re: 2-8 Occoquan Recon

I just saw this. I bet it is iced up pretty good there.

In  2009, Carl and I caught a.big cooler full of yellows.

He was mad I was letting them go. I was like-how many u need fella?

He didnt like the way I reeled them in either....we never fished together again, but my goodness, it was ring perch Heaven that day

Re: 2-8 Occoquan Recon

Carl had lots of folks that he gave fish to....he only kept a few for himself.

Those were some in incredible days. I remember when Mo had a dream and led Carl to a spot that was just loaded with perch. They called me from the water and were giggling like little kids.
