It has now been reported (what we suspected) that GM Fred Jennings was fired. This week, local papers carried the reservoir reopening.

This is awesome news! I'm so happy to know I will be able to hit that water again this summer. I'll fish whether there are any fish left or not!

Anyone seen if the reservoir is filled back up yet?

Hello - I am new to the forum here. I was just out at the reservoir during my lunch break today and would say that the reservoir is still a few feet away from being completely full. It looks great though.
A few days ago I went down there for the sunset by the dock off Alford rd. There was no wind and the water was glass. Perfect time to see if there was any fish activity. What I saw made me really happy. There were huge splashes every few seconds on the surface of the water. So yes, there are still fish in there and there seems to be a bunch of huge ones!

Thanks Brian and welcome to the forum. That place will be open soon...glad to hear there are some fishies frolicking around!!

Sounds like the carp are spawning.

Oh, I'm sure the Carp are getting it on big time. Any updates on the electro-shocking that was planned?

15 more days....
Here is John Odenkirk's report from 5-14-15:
Pleasantly surprised. CPE-P was 27 – good for rank of #7 in District out of 19 lakes for bass 15” and over. Total bass CPE was 61 – a bit low with size structure skewed towards larger fish. As you probably saw, thinking of moving some of Rocky Pen’s fish here. Maybe stock 5K bass fingerlings this spring. We will need to add redear sunfish to WWS request 2016; as there were none found, and there is excellent substrate for them. The lake has rugged and highly variable bathymetry with lots (lots) of rock (boulders). Good channel catfish population with obvious reproduction – one fish was 38”. Good forage base with gizzard shad and white perch. Bluegill numbers adequate but poor size structure (maybe due to GZS and WHP with water level fluctuations). I think it will benefit from some time at full pool, as it was still down about 6’. Saw one monster smallmouth. It is great it will be open for angling soon. I am thankful of Loudoun Water’s decision.

Nice! Looking forward to it. Any chance they would stock freshwater Rockfish?

Where is this located, I could not find it on the DGIF site.

It just happened...will not be updated for a while.

For those that do not understand the nomenclature.......CPE-P stands for Catch Per Effort - for Preferred fish and relates to bass that are 15 inches or larger (Odenkirk calculated it at 27) . Since the total CPE was low (61).........that means the size structure of the bass is towards larger fish.......why Odenkirk recommends adding bass fingerlings to balance the size structure.
As for stripers or hybrids.....I would be surprised if VDGIF would ad them before the bass population was balanced and a significant redear population was established.

Here is my report from tonight's meeting.
They have changed the date of the opening....it's now on May 30.
The Res will be managed by teh NVRPA which is great news.
No trailers at this point.
Please do not park on the church property or on the side of the road next to the church. They have been great to work with.
Stay away from the dam. Both on shore and on foot.
Please report any suspicious activities to the Loudoun Sherrifs office.
Game warden s will be patriolling the area.
We, the citizens that use the facility, will need to be alert to keep everyone safe.
The future looks VERY bright!
Kudos to LoWater and NVRPA for what is happening. They have been great to deal with.
Going forward, they will have some meetings and updates and I will post here.
I am really exited with how this is all turning out.

Ernie,
This turned out much better than expected. What is the capacity of the parking area now? Keep up the great work!
John

Parking capacity is double than what it used to be...at least that.
The HS rowers will be using the Alferd Rd. access (owned by NVRPA) and the gate will be under lock and key.
I should have mentioned that electric motors are OK but no gas motors.

Wow! Oh boy I may have to change my plans to be out there May 30 at dawn. I have never fished there before and only knew about the church lot. Where can we park?
Offline
There are 2 sections of parking (down by the water) once you go past the church.

Bob Daniel sent me these images....not sure if we had posted them earlier.
They even had one for me back in the day....

I bet they found about $1000 worth of lures dangling from that thing when the water levels were dropped!
