8-23-14, out of Spa Creek

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Mustafa and his 2 sons, Zayn and Ameen who are 8 and 6 years old.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/001_zps9fdc6b5a.jpg

We got to the ramp around 8 AM and after a safety chat, we were on our way.

I really did not expect to fish much with 2 young lads aboard. Man, was I wrong!

Anyway, we hit out 1st spot and after a little coaching, we immediately took some skunks off!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/003_zps2a025bc5.jpg

That was just the beginning.

We took papa's skunk of at the 2nd spot we stopped at.

After that, it was more of the same. These kids can cast. They got the technique down. When I said roll it slow, they did. When we needed to speed up over grass, they did. When it was time to yo-yo, they did,  Good fun!

More pics to follow!

The perch fishing is a bit down. While we caught  over 40, but it was not fast and furious. And no biggies.....we did catch a perch in every spot that we tried. And one time, we had a triple!

This was one of the most fun WP trips of the year. Watching these young guys stay in the game from 8 AM until almost 3 pm was a treat. And yes, we got wet!

Re: 8-23-14, out of Spa Creek

They look just like Dad.. minus the facial hair. So did you keep them out for 8 hours or a nice short 4 hours? I met a grand father talking about his grand children and he would stop fishing after about an hour and as they got older he would let them fish longer if they stayed interested. His 16 year old gran daughter fishes 8 hour straight with him. And complains if they go in saying we could catch more if we stayed out.

Hope they got the fever from this trip. The world needs more fisherman..

Good work ..

These kids fished hard....for 7 hours. A few breaks to eat and chill but they fished most of the time. They wanted to catch fish and the did.

They did like it when we made a move and went fast though!

The only time they wanted to come in was when it was pouring....I don't blame them.

It's an absolute blessing to come across individuals who make such an impact on your life that those memories will last a lifetime. Coincidentally enough, the two gentlemen that have posted before me have done just that!

Ernie it was an absolute blast and the kids are still smiling from it today! This was their first 'fish by themselves' trip and with your joyful and welcoming aura and personality it created a beautiful memory that will be with them forever! Thank you so much my friend!

Here are more pics from the day...

Ready to start the trip!

Fish catching time!

and a new style of jigging on the boat... Irish jigging that is... when the fish fell in the boat! (at least that's what it looks like) tongue

and more catching..

Ernie even caught Pickerel, which was a cool sight for the kids

http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a536/AbuMasgouf/Fishing/Zayn%20and%20Ameen%20Fishing/P8232845_zpsc8e15faf.jpg

and towards the end the competition was fierce to catch the most WP! LOL This little guy got hooked and snagged by Ernie and me!

Just like Ernie said, he and I were both going on this trip telling ourselves (without the other knowing) "I won't fish much today because I'm going to concentrate on the kids" and to both our surprise we all got to fish the entire time because they picked it up so fast!! Plus every time we thought that they would probably like to start heading in, they surprised us by saying "No Way I wanna keep fishing!" We even realized when we got back that Zayn never ended up eating his sandwich for lunch (don't worry he had snacks with everyone else), because he wanted to keep on fishing while we were eating. smile

It was an amazing time! Thank you so much Ernie!!

Re: 8-23-14, out of Spa Creek

So I didn't do a full Masgouf with the WP. I cleaned them using the same method but decided to put them on the grill since there were so many... Came out really GOOD!

We did some with old bay, some with a MidEast spice mix and some with a BBQ dry rub that also has coffee grounds. EVOO and salt and pepper on everything. I didn't have a favorite they were so good!

Thanks bro! They were all caught on spinners that looks very much like the Woody ones yeah.

That was my first time catching them that way. I used to pull the kayak right up to the docks and jig for them with little 1/16oz road runners. This way is much more fun so I'm glad I have a new skill!

Thanks for the kind words!

I've got a few videos on roasting fish and a tutorial on how I cut them... It's been kind of a personal mission to spread this technique smile

Kowl

Although I'm mostly catch & release, when it comes to salt water - or walleye's or trout - fish are good

Looks like when you use a grill, you remove the heads, & when you use your cinder block 'smoker' grill you keep the heads on.  Any reason?

I think the pictures above look like the heads are off, but if you look closely in the top picture you can see their heads (and eyes). I keep the head on in all cases to keep the fish intact (i.e keeps it from falling apart). This is especially important when they are being roasted on the open fire.
