Long Island, NY 8/10-8/12

Well, not exactly a fishing expedition, but decided to do a bit of fishing with the kids while visiting family on LI.  First attempt was from the surf on the Long Island Sound in the Town of Smithtown.  The kids fished with snapper poppers, and pretty much every cast brought in a snapper.  I tried for larger stuff, but had zero luck.  The tide was on the way out which made the water very shallow, a very long way out (kids out walk about 100ft and water still to their knees!) which seemed to preclude anything overly interesting.  It was so bad we didn't even get any sea robins, which are usually pretty reliable.

The next day we decided to do some crabbing off the south shore, off a small fishing dock.  The crabbing was slow with only 4 keepers in 3 hours.  Did a little fishing at the same time and ended up with only a couple of snappers.

So, overall a bust as far as fishing goes on this trip...

Kids catching every cast doesn't sound like a bust to me smile

Together we'll fight the long defeat.
