6-28-14, Washington Channel

Got an invite to fish on the Hartbreaker today. She is docked at Columbia Island Marina....how could I resist? I was wiped from yesterday's long trip and loooooong ride home but was able to meet Rob at 0445 and be at the dock at 0510.

Jonathan just bought a used but nice 22' Judge and the goal was to show him some productive areas. Temps were great in the AM and we had an incoming tide that would flood at 1030...not my favorite but it would do!

While LMB was the main target, I was hoping to get him on to a SMB, striper or even walleyes.

Even though Jonathan had already caught a few on a whacky worm a few day before, we were stocked about fishing DC Waters again...it had been a while for me and maybe a 1st for Rob.

Rob is mostly a salt guy.....this rig needed a retirement party!

It did not take Jon long to score on his favorite bass rig....the wacky!

Then he got his 1st smallie!

Watching Jon set the hook and whoop it up on the miss or take is priceless! He is an avid salt guy with many marlin, tuna, cobia trips under his belt. But now he lives in NoVA so the Potomac will be his playground.

Some might say I am spot burning....well go back in time and you will see many of us at the same locations catching fish. There were no other boats out there fishing today.

And why no pictures of me? I was doing the driving. That's my excuse and I am sticking to it!

I did throw a lot of striper baits but no takers. We even made a 1/2 pass while trolling but I could tell no one wanted to do that so we went back to bass fishing.

I did see what I thought was a snakehead behind the fish shacks.

We had a great time, caught over a dozen fish including 2 smallies. We knocked off at 11:15 as Jon wanted to attend a dock part at the marina.

Rob and I stopped at the Italian Store on the way back...all is good in the world!!

A very proud boat owner...

Nice engine!  And boat.  I hope I can keep a boat there one day.  Some days there's no need to fish anywhere else than right there!

We actually talked about your blue boat that had that motor......

Saturday was my first time fishing DC this year. You are very right, we have lots of options.
