The future of Beaverdam Reservoir

We will use this thread to give out as much info as is gathered going forward.....lots of work to be done.

Please do not be shy about being a speaker at one of the public meetings. It's easier than you think and your voice will be heard.

There will be a meeting at Lost Rhino on Thursday (June 19) from 5:30pm-7:00pm

Re: The future of Beaverdam Reservoir

The video you referenced was over 1.5 hours long.  Where in the time frame was the young lady that you referenced?

Re: The future of Beaverdam Reservoir

Video is less than 4 minutes long....don't know why it is saying 1.5 hours for you.

It's a video of the Chairman's intro and all the public speakers.

Re: The future of Beaverdam Reservoir

When I click on the link, it starts at 2:19.28 and ends at 3:55.17......that's 1 hour, 35 minutes, and 49 seconds!  What is the start and end time of the young lady?   I do not have 1.5 hours to see her speak for 2 minutes tongue .

Re: The future of Beaverdam Reservoir

It starts with the Chairman talking about the Beaverdam issue...then it goes to the speakers...she is one of them. It ends at 2:48 with me as I was the last speaker. Scroll the little bar until you see her face...the rest of the faces are the guys that talked.

For the record.....the Mark Peterson on the Rowing board is not the same person as his namesake at LoCo Water. No relation or association.

Direct link to Claire's excellent speech!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgfRDrd … t=2h40m50s

Everyone's next public speaking opportunity is coming up here in July.  Loudoun Water is going to have a stakeholder meeting FINALLY.  Supervisor Williams and Clarke put enough heat on them that they are finally doing what they should have done in January.

I have to admit my first time speaking in front of the board was a bit scary, it was for some other issue, not for the reservoir.  I remember sweating, thinking what have I signed up for... it turned out to be an amazing amount of fun.  Essentially you get to stick it to the man and they don't even get a chance to respond until later.   It is very empowering.  Your voice does count, if you sit back and do nothing, they win.

Re: The future of Beaverdam Reservoir

Can anyone reach out to the Sheriff's office gang unit and get a good response on this supposed gang activity at the reservoir.  Sure would be fun to put a dagger (or is that shiv) into that one.

My sister's cop boyfriend doesn't know of any activity there.  He's been working the Brambleton area for a while.
I don't know of any activity area there either.  All the gang activity I know of is in Sterling Park and the apartments area of Leesburg.

Idiots probably think graffiti = gang.  Nope just kids/teens painting the spillway.

Thanks....here is another update.

"One last big push is needed to hit 1,000 petition signatures before we meet with Loudoun Water next month. With support from Loudoun Supervisors Wiiliams, Reid, and Clarke, NVRPA, and Virginia State Game and Inland Fish, Facebook friends Clean Up Beaverdam and Loudoun Paddle Club, we have gained valuable attention. This story has had several write ups in our local newspapers with more to come. We need each of you to get 1 person to sign this week to push our message and gain Loudoun Water as a friend to the community. Many thanks to all of you and showing these petitions do matter."

Re: The future of Beaverdam Reservoir

John Odenkirk, VA State biologist, sent me this: "Thanks for your help on this Ernie. Pretty much anybody who owns a dam has been subject to new ridiculous DCR requirements to meet PMF design flows. This includes us. Burke was renovated 2 years ago with draw-down and no closure. Brittle is in year 2 of a 4 foot draw-down with no closure. Motts Reservoir in Spotsylvania has been fluctuating for tower repairs with no closure. In fact, they've enhanced access attributes there.  LWA throws this excuse out as a crutch - a vehicle to achieve  a means to an end. It does not float. Fight the good fight."

More news at 6!

We are 76 away from 1000!
