4-25-08, Chesapeake Bay Report

My rabbit hunting friend invited me to go out of Chesapeake Beach in search of striper on Friday the 25th. We arrived early in a 17ft open bow boat from 1970. To say the boat has been well used is an understatement; however it is rigged for trolling and even has some very nice homemade planner boards.

We definitely had the least expensive boat out there. ($600) But were more then capable catching them. We had 6 hits and landed three the two biggest were 44” and 42” and one that didn’t make the cut at 27 1/2”

My wife was using the camera, so the best I could do was a bad pic from my cell phone  .

Those are two slobs! Nice work in a little boat.  We need to do that in my boat next spring....I have the planer boards and all the gear....which have done lots of straining but no catching!

Your boat would be perfect for that area and its only an hour and a half away.

Re: 4-25-08, Chesapeake Bay Report

I know that there are two tournaments on the bay this weekend...they are expecting 1000 boats plus all the others that are not in!

Those fish will be here for a few more weeks....I just don't know if I can get out.....but let's look!

I do know that Harry Guthrie caught a 50+ pound striper in the Potomac on Saturday or Sunday.....WOW!!!

So many fish to catch and so little time.

If the weather looks good and the fishing report is great, I won't be very productive at work anyway. roll

Can you put canoe and skiff type boats in that area? What about an 18ft 30horsepower boat with a tiller?

Charlie,

Tha Chesapeake Bay is a major body of water!!

You have to pick your days in a small boat but FORGET a skiff or canoe. The 30 hp boat will only be good on some days (very few). I did not take my 19', 115hp boat unless I knew it would be flat. The bay is not very forgiving!!

I think the first one is an asian junk boat. The picture looks eerily similar to the ship vietnamese refugee piled into when fleeing the country..

Ernie, these boats sure bring back memories smile
