Doesn't get much better

Fished a late night and early morning up in DC with my son this past weekend.  Everything cooperated.  My son caught his biggest and was thrilled.  I could have sworn all of the spawners were long gone but with 65 degree temps there were still a few around.  I had an excellent year this year on big bass.  No giants over 50 like last year but we did well on artificial and bait this year.  Jigging gulp, or 7 inch flukes hot rodded behind known humps and structure has been decent.  Plugs and top water have scored a few.  Anyway, here's some pictures from the weekend.  The best action however came from largemouth that we stumbled into for about an hour.  Numerous plump largemouth jumped all over texas rigged flukes, incuding a few crappie pushing 12 inches too.  What does that river not have.  Oh... and John C and I scored a big snakehead last week with a spear!!  We couldn't get them to hit our tubes, top water or plastic worms but they couldn't dodge our spears for long.

Off to greener pastures now.  Musky up the Doha and some beach time soon as the weakies are making a come back!  Schoolies will be around well into June this year for the rock hoppers.

The hickory shad are about gone compared to the week before the rain.  The herring however are so numerous that you can barely cast a top water lure without snagging one accidentially.  American shad are still there are some people are getting excellent numbers.

That's not "blue boat" holding the snakie. That's what we used to call Jon when we would run into him on the river.

I can vouch that Jon is an incredibly accomplished fisherman.

Re: Doesn't get much better

Yea I sold big blue for $500 less than I bought it 7 years later Plus 2000 hours.  The Honda was in perfect shape.  Some waterman bought it from deal.  I now have a 16' Lund that is also blue.  Ive made multiple trips up DC this spring including 3 over nighters.  The flats never came around or I'd have been there more.  Never once did a night time flats trip.  Ive had incredible success with that in the past.

My good fishing buddy holding the snakehead is also a John.  If I could fish anywhere now it would be CBbt and the barrier islands.  Some insane black and red drum happening right now.  That and clear water sight fishing to the migrants leaving the bay.

That is an awesome fish your son got!  Great job and thanks for sharing.  Sounds like you have that area scoped out pretty well.
