My goal is to catch a fish in every month this year. While not perceived as a major accomplishment, family life has significantly diminished my fishing time. I'll provide basic info for each monthly catch.
January 5th - unseasonably warm day, around 55 degrees. One bass. Around 12-13in. Caught on a drop shot, green pumpkin trick worm.
February 23 - unseasonably warm day after three day warming trend, around 70 degrees. Two bass. Both around 12-13in. Caught on red rattle trap, near the shore in 2-3 ft of water.
March 21 - day two of a warming trend after another snowstorm. Close to 70 degrees. One bass landed, two hooked in 30 minutes, both 12-13in. Again caught using a red rattle trap in about 2ft of water. Different pond than Jan. and Feb.
April 13 - tail end of a week long warming trend, around 80 degrees. 13 bass landed in 90 minutes. Biggest around 1.5lbs. Most in 2-4 feet, stained water. Caught on black and blue as well as green pumpkin jigs with chunk and power bait trailers. Saw a few beds, but no big mamas.
May 26 - middle part of warming trend, around 88 degrees. 8 bass landed in three hours from the kayak. Was able to hit never before spots inaccessible from shore. Biggest went 15in. Most were tight to cover in wind blown spots. Best bait was gambler beaver style. All fish in post spawn/summer mode.
June 15 - consistent summer warmth, around 85 degrees. 15 bass, one crappie, one bluegill on a mix of crank baits and soft plastics. Water depth ranged, but deep cranking bite was on. Fish definitely pulling back from shallows to cooler water.
