Where would you float from/to on the Rapp?
Offline
Probably the 7 mile float that Clore Brothers runs a shuttle for. Put in is at a private launch, and take out is at Motts run.
Pretty soon I will be wading the river too. Getting antsy!

It just keeps coming.

We have 2+ inches here but nothing on the roads.....I was going to guess 1.75"!

Sorry I didn't get the new snow total thread going. Was a busy and long day yesterday. 3.1 inches at Dulles (IAD) as of 2:55 pm today and still snowing...........

Part of me wanted to see another thread and the other part (the smarter one) just wants to be done with it!

WxRisk was calling for 1-3" in our area thus my 1.75" prediction. But the system moved further west and it snowed all day. I bet (if cold enough) we got more than 4". It snowed and snowed and never got past 2". I wonder how they measure that...

special device............wipe and read every 2-6 hrs. Also in shade. They also melt the snow in a special device to get snow:water ratio.
Over 4" on my deck in the shade right now.

I had 3" to clear off my driveway. Houses across the street had none.

Yeah, I'd wait if I was you.
Fished down there on Saturday.
Went swimming in 40dF water while fishing from the kayak. Ran a class II, hit a submerge rock & flipped. All happened in about 1/2 second. Lost a rod & reel & got pretty banged up. Dummy me didn't have a life vest on.
Water got into the waders, but the belt limited the amount. Went under a couple times until I pulled myself out of the hydraulic. First time I went under I relaxed and told myself not to panic. Second time I kicked out, bumped over a few rocks in the rapid & pulled out just in time to see the current take my yak down stream. My anchor line trailed the yak & became the hail-mary rope. Swam & grabbed the line, wrapped it around a thick branch, grabbed the yak & floated down the rest of the way to an eddy.
Water in the waders warmed up so I was ok the last 1/2 of the float. Changed out my top right away with dry cloths & kept on fish'n for a couple hours to the take out.
Fun stuff, but pulled something, banged up with a few bruises (didn't feel them when they happened, must have been the adrenaline?) but other than that happy because it could have been worse.
I was the only one to catch fish.
And hey, gives me an excuse to build another rod, right? lol
Let me know when you want to go. I'm familiar with all the rocks on one streach of that river. And you dont need to hire anyone for a shuttle.

Yikes! When will you learn regarding the life jacket? Ticket, dumping in cold water....
Sorry about the rod/reel.
And the bruises? You had a coldpack on 'em so you didn't feel until later. Like doing exercise after a long time being recluse. The pain comes 12 hours later....
Glad you are OK!

Wow, that's some scary stuff, you were lucky to get out in relatively good shape.
Was it the rapid at the confluence? There's some pretty good flow through there even when the water is down a bit. I would not want to swim it in March.

If it was summer, it would have been a hurricane!

Further up from the Confluence. We were on the Rappidan - way up.
The bruises didn't hurt until Monday morning - and then it was a good excuse to call in sick to work.
While @ home, finished building a 6'6" medium fast Avid to replace the one I lost.
Now I need to find a reel -Ernie, what you selling lol

I was in Leesburg yesterday, and there was rain, sleet, and snow for most of the day. I'm sure you guys got the same stuff in Ashburn.
The rivers are hideous. Bleh.

This Cuban does not hit the rivers in a yak until the water is warm enough (>68). That way, if I turtle, I won't die of cold shock!
How about May 10?

I was gonna do a quick 5 mile canoe trip with the gf this weekend, and now the river is back up to dangerous levels. Doing laps in a pond just isn't the same.
