I was looking forward to fishing my old stomping grounds with Curly on Memorial Day. It had been over three years since I fished the waters of the Upper Potomac River at Algonkian Park. We put in early Monday morning and we were fishing by 6:15 AM. We saw a spectacular sunrise and figured we would have a great 3 hours of fishing up above the park.
Man....were we disappointed! We threw everything at them and nothing worked! Finally, around 8:45 AM, a little feisty smallmouth bass hit my avocado colored 3" paddle tail grub. He gave me a great fight and the skunk was off the boat. But that was it...no more to be had. We had a few bites but overall, we were dumbfounded with what we saw.
It is a beautiful area to fish but I don’t think Curly and I will back there soon! Well…. maybe we can hit it one evening to see what we can find!!
