Labor Day weekend, Starrett Pointe with NHBA

I missed this outing one again and I am paying for it with a bevy of emails as to how many fish were caught.

Here are email excerpts and pictures....

You missed it, Buddy.

The Cypress Trout were traveling in packs in Dragon Run. We were sight fishing for them.  When you saw one, there were anywhere from 3-6 others with them. All we had to do was toss a floating worm, small spinnerbait or Berkley Power Hawg at them and hold on!

At the mouths of feeders, we tossed horny toads and buzzbaits up into the feeders and had fish on almost every cast. Anthony and I caught over 40 of them on Sunday up to 12 pounds. Most were in the 4-7 pound class.

On Sunday, wecaught redfish, catfish, bass, bowfin, spot, croaker, white perch and striper. What a great two days of CATCHING!

Samples of fish caught:

Four pound bass

Travis brought his kayak down in order to float the entire length of the Run on Sunday. On Saturday, we loaded his kayak aboard my boat and traversed the six or so miles to the Run to allow him to fish the lower end.

At the end of the day, we towed him back to the mouth of the Run, where we once again loaded him up and headed back to the ramp.

A great day.

I did not take many pics this weekend due to...I needed some down time. Fished twice on Friday and twice on Saturday. On Sunday spent the entire day in the Dragon and on Labor Day fished a few back creeks for reds. We caught eleven slot reds this weekend and two overs and about 25 under slot. Nailed some big cypress trout on popping frogs and another 6 LGMouth as well. Landed and released 30 something sand sharks and 10 rays of various kinds. No cow nose rays oddly enough. Capt Dave got the spot trophy with I think 28 spots.

Floating down Dragon Run was awesome.  Pretty much non-stop action and there were three of us usually not more than a hundred yards apart.  Early on I hooked up with a pickeral for the first time ever, but towards the end I finally hooked up with another and landed it, just under 16".  The fish even bite when you're sitting right on top of them and you're looking at them.  I caught 16.75 and 19" 3lb 5oz largemouth by dropping a senko right in front them as soon as I saw them just a few feet away.  I probably could've had 5lber too that I saw earlier in the float but threw a small crankbait its way instead of a senko.

I was even able to get bowfins to bite the senkos.  I had one come just me out and even follow me so of course I dropped a senko in its face.  I ended yanking that one clear out of the water.  But it came off and my hook was straightened some.  The day before I caught more bowfins while using a spinnerbait.  I lost at least twice as many as a landed.  My biggest bowfin was 25.5" 4lb 5oz.

One evening out on the Capt's boat with him and Dave I caught my first keeper red.  It had 16 spots!  I fried and ate half of it tonight.

Not long before loading back onto Charlie's boat the one day, a big speckled trout whipped a 180 right next to me and splashed me after follow my bait. Argh.
