I've been meaning to get out here. I was planning on it yesterday but I got to sleep very late and with a headache, and then woke up with a headache still and totally beat so I slept in. I was on the water by about 0630. There were a few shore fishers already there. Never did see any of them catch fish. High tide was to be about 0830.
My first hook up was a small striper. There was a lot of surface activity so I was hoping for more action. I was primarily here for blue cats though.
After a few small cats I got an even smaller striper.
When the tide started going out the action picked up and I eventually caught a dozen blue cats at 20" or greater. During the slack time, anchored on the down side of the bridge I was casting towards the bridge support and getting a few decent fish. At the same time I had one rod with a bait suspended about half way down. This one routinely got hit by cats that were much smaller.
Around noon I headed to the other side of the bridge. The wind had picked up by now too and the chop was about 2ft+. No problem in the Wavewalk though, even when sideways to the waves. I thought I got hung up on the timbers lining the bulkhead by the current pushing the bait into it. Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. But once I got freed I had a huge fish on. It was obvious right away. It dragged me right up against the bulkhead and then it wouldn't budge. It was like it had locked itself into a hole. I've got no idea what might be down there so I made some distance between the bulkhead to try to pull it out/up without risking line damage. Eventually I got up this 35.5" cat. I didn't have a working scale, but I guesstimate 25lbs.
I got hit hard again not long after that one but the line broke at the leader connection. My rods weren't specifically set up for cats otherwise I wouldn't have had the fluoro leaders. I removed it after that. I think that fish was even bigger. In another instance a monster doubled over my rod in the holder and busted off before I even had a chance to touch the rod.
A couple in the 25" range put up really good fights too. It was an awesome day!

Nice work Travis!! Looks like a great place to do some monster cat fishing. Did you catch all the cats on jigs?

Yeah, they didn't really care for the perch so I quit trying. I got nibbled on a few times but was never able to get a hookset.
