One magic hour

After my grandson caught a keeper red on Saturday I decided to fish for a redfish from the kayak yesterday. Launched near 301 bridge on a nearly low tide at 5:30 AM and paddled south to the spot we fished Sat. Was rigged with a Redfish Magic which is like an oversized  beetle spin with a large gold spinner on a jig head with a “new penny” colored shad tail.
First cast yielded a blue cat followed by this 17” striper

Caught another undersized striper, then this 18.75 redfish

After several more cats up to 30# I decided to catch some perch. Picked up the ultra light with a small spinner bait and caught this

And this

And finally a perch

Had to get one pic of scenery to keep Ernie interested

Finally the tide had started coming in, so I moved to another spot that has some current and the magic hour began. First cast yielded a 22” keeper

Second cast a 23”er

So I anchored the yak to stay in the sweet spot. I kept the red and these first 2 stripers knowing I had fish to take home to the neighbor. Potomac laws say no upgrading so now I was fishing c&r for the fun of it. For the next hour I was too busy for pics. Caught 25 rock on 25 casts between 20 and 26” till it finally slowed down. Once the tide had come up some the rip settled and the fish scattered. This was the best hour of fishing I can remember. Looking forward to getting back down there next week.

Re: One magic hour

I put the go-pro on my head at the start, but I'm old so it wasn't recording. Who knew that both buttons had to be pushed?

Wow, nice mixed bag! I haven't been to that spot since we met a couple seasons ago. A shot at such nice reds might convince me to make that drive!

Re: One magic hour

That's awesome Bob!!! I am thinking of heading there this weekend out of Aqualand but also considering the VA side to hit that shallow oyster bar. Any chance you'll be out there?

I'm hoping for Saturday. High tides for the area are 9:15 A and 9:30 P, any preference?
