Beaverdam on 5/15

Fished from the kayak on Beaverdam yesterday morning from about 8:30 to 11:30. First trip there this year. The access road at Mt. Hope is open, although heavy construction is still on-going. Parking is very limited by construction and floating docks on shore. Water was high but surprisingly clear. Fishing wasn't good...I got 3 white perch on small Rat L Trap and my friend got one largemouth on crawbait. Mostly fished shallow weedbeds, but white perch came from 6-8 foot depths suspended. We had the whole reservoir to ourselves so at least we had a peaceful (if not productive) day.

Re: Beaverdam on 5/15

Glad to hear Mt. Hope road is finally open. I need to get the yak out there this weekend. My luck at BCR has also been quite spotty but I plan to hit it more frequently this summer.  Definitely some honker bass there but lots of room to roam and hide!

I fished there on Tuesday evening.  Caught some white perch, bluegill, a small crappie and a single smallmouth.   The carp were in their usual location.

Rowers were in full force.

Re: Beaverdam on 5/15

I was out there a couple weeks ago, put in on the Reservoir Road side. Ended up with two bass near the shore, rest of the crew got skunked. Tough place to figure out sometimes, especially since I have no electronics! Also got the chance to help the row team build the floating dock. Those sections are HEAVY.

This is new dock on the west side.

And they added large gravel to the ramp area too.

Is that new dock and gravel area at Reservoir Road? If so, can you now drive down to the water to unload?

Yes, as long as the gate isn't locked.  I haven't seen it locked ever since they started working on the area for the crew teams.

Re: Beaverdam on 5/15

Speaking of Beaverdam, on my scanner I just heard a DGIF officer mark out at the reservoir.  Seems like an odd day to be out there.
