My Fishing Vacation

I started of by stopping at my step-sister/step-BIL's 2nd home at Lake Gaston. Right after I got out of my truck I heard the unusually loud sound of jet, not something I recalled hearing around there before.  I looked up to see an F-15 at about 3000ft.  Then 20 seconds later another, then another and finally a fourth.  I fished a little bit Thursday afternoon but caught nothing. I really didn't bother on Friday before hitting the road for South Carolina.

In South Carolina I did some racing over the weekend. I've put together a video of one race so far.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHGEhiIpEsA

Then I went down to the St Augustine area to stay with my sister and BIL for the next week and a half.  The ICW is right behind their house.  Picture of the canal behind the house with ICW out past the pole.  The tide was higher than average because of the noreaster last weekend.  At low tide there are only a few inches of water in the middle of the canal.

My fishing started off great with a Lemon Shark.

Nothing else for several days until a caught a couple hardhead catfish using some cut mullet that I had netted behind the house.

Friday was too windy for fishing in a yak.  Then Saturday and Sunday were cold (record cold actually on Saturday) and wet.

Monday we all headed to Ginnie Springs about two hours to the west.  This is a private park/campground along the Sante Fe River and there are several springs that feed the river here.  The spring water is 73 degrees year round. I fished here Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning into afternoon. Tuesday I also checked out the springs and took some underwater video. I'm really impressed with how well the Contour cameras record underwater without even using the special underwater case for deeper depths.

The first Suwanee bass I caught on Monday ended up being the largest of about six total.  I also caught a bunch of spotted sunfish.

This is the spring I swam in with the camera.

Some of the video footage is of the other springs recorded from my kayak.

After stopping in Richmond on the way home, my truck became even more loaded with a new Wavewalk kayak.

Re: My Fishing Vacation

Great report T.  Holding small sharks by the tail can put their mouths in a very bad place if they decide to try and bite....I am just saying.  big_smile

Those Springs are amazing.  I snorkeled Blue Springs (near Orlando) years ago and they are really incredible places.  Great pics and video.

So, how did you do in the races?

Cool report and great video.  Had my heart racing.  Have you ever gone to Barber motorsports just outside Birmingham Al?  Great track from what I could see and an awesome motorcycle museum.  Lemon shark....oh lemon shark....sweet.

Re: My Fishing Vacation

That Suwanee bass is beautiful! It looks like a largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass all rolled into one.

Great pics and report!

Thanks.

Middle to rear of pack.  My races only had 7 to 12 entrants.

I've raced there several times.  It's my favorite track.  The series stopped going there a few years ago because the turnout was dropping every year.  It's a long drive for most of the racers.   The museum is awesome.
