Mustafa and I planned to fish CBBT (Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel) or Kiptopeke for tautog (tog). Unfortunately small craft warning was issued throughout the whole weekend.
Mustafa arrived at my house at 4am. We talked about the bad (wind). We called the fishing off. I was on the bed. I couldn't sleep. Around 5am I called him. ""Let's go to Rudee for specks", "Bring two light rods and reels. I got the lures and necessary tackles"
In 20 minutes, Mustafa arrived at my house again.
We decided to fish Rudee Inlet first until the wind would subside. We would hit Kipto in the afternoon. But the small craft warning was continuously issued throughout the weekend
We fished Rudee Inlet for speck and red. Surprisingly, bluefish had arrived.
Later in the afternoon, we went out to the Inlet to see how rough the ocean was. The ocean was still rough. Because the rock-pile jetties might hold tautog, we also fished for Tautog at the jetty for kicks.
As usual regardless the species we fish for, we enjoyed the fishing

Man that was a fun day! First time I caught all three species from my yak. As always there are always smiles and laughter when fishing with Joe. Thank you for the awesome memories!
"Hey Joe, we should've gone to Occoquan" (inside joke LOL)

Great video! It's always fun to catch a variety of fish.
This is my favorite time of year to hit Rudee. Think I'm gonna go this weekend.

Some pics of the finished product...
I roasted one of the bluefish, plain with just a touch of salt. I really like bluefish this way... the flavor is awesome!

Continuing the end product report...
I wanted to try a double Masgouf set-up on an open fire. This is the first time and it was awesome!
Did this at my in-laws and decided to also do a taste test. Speckled Trout versus Bluefish. For the finish I made a light sauce that consisted of tamarind concentrate, water, olive oil, salt, pepper, tomatoes, and an Iraqi key ingredient: Date syrup. When I laid the fish on its back on the coal (scale side down) I spooned the sauce on the fish as it was cooking. After about 3-5 minutes, I took it off using a spatula to keep as much as the sauce on the fish.
Man it was dynamite!
The results of the taste test really surprised me… my in-laws don't eat as much fish as we do in our house and I totally thought they were going to pick the speckled trout for it's milder taste… to my surprise they all loved the bluefish more… even my brother in-law's kids picked the bluefish over the speck!
I'm telling you… Masgouf makes everything taste phenomenal!
Enjoy the pics:
