I had a business conference in Orlando from April 17-19. A fishing opportunity arose when my friend Maynard Benjamin, who happens to run the conference, told me that we had free time on Thursday afternoon. That is all I needed to hear so I contacted Capt. Pete Matson. I fished with Pete a few years back.
When I called him, he said, "we really need to go in the morning, that is when the best bite is". I said, "Pete, all we have is from 1-5 pm so let's give it a shot!". As he did last time, Pete picked us up at the hotel.
You can't beat that for service (except chicken and ribs with Capt. Mike)!!
We fished Toho because that was the closest lake to where we were staying.
We started working a shore line and we all threw something different to see what was hot. I was throwing a plastic swim bait.
The 1st fish hit a 10" worm...
Maynard's 1st hit was on a shiner!
My 1st (the biggest of the day to that point at @ 4#'s) hit on a watermelon candy senko.
We continued to catch fish....
....but nothing of any size until this guy!!
My biggest LMB ever!
7 pounds and 4 ounces!
We fished some more and kept catching but my day was already made. Right before we quit, Maynard landed this guy!
It was a very nice afternoon on the water.....a bonus!

Congrats. That's a honker of a LMB!
I'm still trying to break the 7 lb mark and often stare at the 8 lb 14 oz LMB my dad had mounted I put on the wall in my billiard room for motivation (of course with the Montecristo belicosa cigar in her mouth for the ultimate lure).

Those 7 pounders in FL are not such a big a deal as they are up here. On Capt. Pete's AM trip, one of the anglers caught a 10 pounder. That's the number they shoot for to impress!
I found out that my cousin Dean Rojas (he's not really my cousin) won a tournament on that lake with a 45 pound limit of 5 fish! Holy smokes!

Nice bass! Puts you way at the top of the non-AV bass list!

That ain't fair.....the local (non AV) 5 pounders are a greater accomplishment than a FL 7 pounder.....plus there is no picture of the weight!

Great post E. Looks like you're starting off the 2013 season with a string of personal bests. Hope your good fortune continues.

I'm in FL right now. I don't think I'll be catching 7lbers. I'll be fishing the Santa Fe river in the Highland Springs area on Monday and Tuesday. Looking forward to a Suwanee bass.
