Anna...was good to us, 11-30-12

Finally!

After many trips over the last few years....Lake Anna gave up some keeper stripers!

Curly and I left Ashburn just before 5 AM. It was cold...and dark.

We made great time on the way down and we were commenting how Anna has humbled us year after year. And....we had a full moon.

Truth be told, I wanted to back out last night as I didn't want a long skunk ride home.

Around 7:15AM, we put in.....

....in full view of the FULL MOON!

Curly had received some intel and we went right at the Splits. We found some marks and Curly took the skunk off the boat!

Listen....there have been days that this was our only catch!

Then, I snagged bottom except it started to move and shake. A masterful net job landed this 6.5 lb, FAT 25" striper!

It didn't take Curly long to get his, a nice 21 incher!

I followed up with a close to a keeper that came unbuttoned at the side of the boat. Curly then caught another 21 incher and a 19" throwback.

A few minutes before 9AM I caught another 25 incher that went a little over 6 lbs.

For most of that time, we fished with another boat and they were catching as well.

Curly used a gold/green silver buddy and I used a chartreuse toothache spoon with a single (dressed) hook. The other guys were jigging as well.

After that....it shut down.

We covered a lot of water and saw some other boats but few fish were caught.

When we came in, Curly chatted with a live bait striper chaser but he had only caught one. He was a bit surprised by our success.   I was elated by it!

At the Marina, we got our picture taken for their website!

Great day despite the cold in the morning.....

Pretty good results for a guy who doesn't like to fish in cold weather. You may have to re-think that policy....

Bruce- I've learned to dress for the occasion....and I like to fish. But soon enough, it will get to me and I will shut down until the yellow perch start calling.

Ernie did "unexpectedly well"  in the early sub-freezing temps.  Our hands were cold, even with gloves on.  When he landed that first 6-pounder, Ernie said, "my hands are are not cold anymore".  Suddenly mine were not cold either and I hadn't caught a fish yet.  Definately our best day ever on Anna and topped all other trips combined before yesterday. big_smile

Awesome trip guys! I have never had much luck there other than white perch and a few largemouth. This gives me motivation continue my quest to catch my first Smith Mountain Lake keeper striper from the kayak. I have dedicated a significant amount of time trying so far without success.

From the pics  it looks like there was little to no wind. Ultra-important for your warm-bloodedness!

Nice trip and write up guys.

Nice guys!  I see you launched from the marina I get my work done at.  It's a good place for fish intel! lol.  If you decide to try the warm side of the lake let me know.  I live there!  Don't know anything about striper fishing, but that's the trade off!!! hahaha

This has me seriously considering a trip down there with my kayak this coming weekend.  Plenty of room in my truck if someone else is interested.
