DC Potomac, 10-8-12

Curly and I left Ashburn at 0545  with the temps in the low 40's. Thankfully, I know how to layer properly but I really want my warm weather back!

Anyway, we started off on the WC and Curly managed two of these guys....

..."turd rollers" is the proper name I believe. They were caught on Silver Buddies.

I kept throwing top water and had one hit and finally was able to bring one in.

Maybe a 12-13 incher but he was healthy and wide. We were never able to find his relatives.

I did get a huge hit on a spinner bait and as I was trying to lip the 5 pounder (blue cat) the line broke and he took off with my spinnerbait.....

Once we explored every foot of water in the channel. Curly talked me into going to the poop plant. We marked a ton of bait but this was the only pullage....

We then hit the mouth of Columbia island but had a total of zero hits there so we decided on fishing the bridges. It was not until we fished Memorial Bridge that we had some action. At 1st, Curly got slammed and his rod looked like an upside down U. But the big cat broke off before we had a look at him.

I then managed this guy....

....and Curly did the same.

There was one HUGE bonus for today. Normally, I like to stop for Ledo's, Italian Store or BBQ after fishing. Today, Curly brought some of his famous BBQ pork on board and we had a feast at noon!

Back to fishing. While we marked a lot of baits around the pilings, the bites were few but we kept at it. As we were getting ready t head home, we tried one last time and I got slammed on ,y Toothache spoon. This 5 pounder was my reward.

Today was a good day to be out, very little boat traffic (except tourist boats) and we figured that with the cold front that moved in over the weekend that the fish would be hungry.

Maybe they had a late dinner last night....

Sounds like you had a good trip. If that last pic is any indication you'll look like the Michelin man before the fishing ends

Outer jacket, fleece sweater, long sleeve shirt and short sleeve T. Plus buff for the ears and my new fingerless gloves.

I actually did OK but it was not that cold as it could have been.....it did get all the way up to 54!
